THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU AT THE 2019 NADCE CONFERENCE!
In the midst of ministry and life, we DCEs need to be reminded of the sure hope of Jesus that is our anchor. Join us in San Diego, January 2nd-4th, 2019, as we come together in the confidence of our Savior, our solid anchor, to embrace the hope as we live out our calling. We desire DCEs, like you, from all walks of life and ministry to know that this conference will speak to you in whatever season you are in.
Hey y’all, I’m Shelly. I serve as a DCE (University Ministry Associate) at Concordia University, St. Paul in Minnesota. I hang out with college students professionally. I’ve also spent a few years as a parish DCE in Arizona. I’m constantly striving to be more than a DCE, in order to be the best, healthiest one possible. I’m a grad student (in Creative Writing—how fun is that?), a musician and writer, a creative type, and traveling adventurer who would be outside all the time if I could. (But MN winter. Uffda.) I drink too much coffee, eat too many Spaghetti O’s, and my favorite title is “Auntie Shells.” I’m a small town Kansas girl who, after a year with Youth Encounter, landed in the heart of the beautifully diverse Twin Cities at CSP. Being sent to the ends of the earth has never been so convenient. Life with college students is so beautiful to me because they get community. I’m grateful to be part of a church plant (The WHEREhouse) that values doing life together, too. We are better together. My claim to LCMS fame is being the only person ever to speak at the National Youth Gathering about singleness—every 30 year old gal’s dream! (“Singleness: Not Just for Cat Ladies and Basement Dudes” can be found on Youtube if you need some encouragement!) I blog sometimes about life and ministry as an unmarried girl and other things that Jesus is teaching me. If you hang around me long enough, I’m bound to quote “Parks and Rec” or sing what I’m thinking. Honestly, I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time, while striving to be as intentional and whole as possible on this side of heaven. Believing that God is up to grace-filled, redemptive work in and around and through me, however, is what being a follower of Jesus and a DCE is all about. I’m excited to spend time with y’all as we rest together in this secured, anchored hope we have in Jesus.
